Sound of Music takes to the Northern Stage

Wednesday, Jan. 1 at 7:30 p.m.—WHITE RIVER JUNCTION— Northern Stage, The Barrette Center for the Arts, presents the Sound of Music. Playing on Sunday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday, January 1-5, 2020, this family classic runs 2 1/2 hours, with a 15 minute intermission.

Based on the true story of the Von Trapp Family Singers, this play offers a tale of personal growth and hope amidst the horrors of World War II. Young postulant Maria Rainer is a free spirit who has trouble fitting into the rules and regulations of Nonnberg Abbey. Commissioned by the Mother Abbess to serve as the governess for seven motherless children, Maria transforms the Von Trapp family home from a place of dour rules and regulations to one filled with joy, laughter, and music. The classic score by Rodgers and Hammerstein features some of Broadway’s greatest songs such as “My Favorite Things,” “Do-Re-Mi,” and “Climb Ev’ry Mountain.”

Be aware, this production contains strobe and haze effects and is recommended for ages 10 and up due to adult themes.

Northern Stage, The Barrette Center for the Arts is located at  74-76 Gates St. in White River Junction. For more information call 802-296-7000 or visit northernstage.org.
