Fatal crash in Rutland Town

On Aug. 20, at 6 a.m., Vermont state police responded to a one-vehicle car crash that occurred at the end of Blueberry Ln. in Rutland Town.  A Pontiac Vibe driven by Norma Montaigne, 74, of Pittsford,  had driven off the road and into a cattle barn.  The vehicle sustained substantial front end damage, and the air bags were deployed.The barn sustained moderate damage.  Montaigne was found unconscious. She was transported to Rutland Regional Medical Center by Regional Ambulance for life threatening injuries and later succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.  She was not wearing her seatbelt.  Drugs and alcohol didn’t play a role in the crash.

This crash is currently under investigation. Anyone who may have witnessed this motor vehicle crash is encouraged to contact Sgt. Blake Cushing at the Rutland Barracks at 802-773-9101.
