Matthew Lorman fundraiser was a huge success

Dear Editor,

What an amazing day the spaghetti dinner was. We had approximately 300 people there. I would love to thank those businesses and people that went above and beyond for me and more importantly for my son Matthew Lorman — first and foremost the Loyal Order of Moose (Moose Club) who hosted the event. What a classy organization they have. The minute I called them they jumped on board stating that they saw this as “community service.” Where other clubs in the area wanted to charge for this event they did not. They gave us the entire building including their kitchen where the magic began…

Ricky Battles, JJ Johnson, and my husband Keith Lorman started cooking at 12-noon that day. Meatballs were being put in the oven, water was boiling for the spaghetti noodles and, yes, the sauce was simmering. It started to smell like something fantastic was going to happen, and it did.

The doors opened at 5 p.m. and by 5:30 p.m. my husband was running to the kitchen for more spaghetti. We knew at that point it was going to be a huge success, and it was. There was a silent auction, thanks to some wonderful area businesses.

We had a lot of door prizes and then Senator Peg Flory came down and awarded Matthew an award from the Senate and State Legislature. There are so many people that have gone above and beyond to help us in this wonderful endeavor and we want to thank as many of them as possible.

It is really fantastic getting recognized by our state for something healthy and good. Matthew has helped those people in our state realize that there are good, healthy and amazing kids growing up here and it has brought Rutland community out in droves. Matthew has started a wave here in Rutland. A wave of community pride and we his parents are most proud of him. His hard work has paid off and he is truly looking forward to his trip in the “Mini Olympics” in Australia. He wants to show everyone how thankful he is and the only way he can is by running really fast.

He has come in first for Rutland High School the last several meets and has a great team of fellow runners in the track program this year. He is truly humbled for all the generosity around him and so are we.

We have almost met our goal and have only one fundraiser left. On May 8, join us at the Knights of Columbus for a Texas Hold’Em tournament. Doors open at 5 p.m. for snacks and games start at 6 p.m. Hope to see you all there.

Thank you again. My heart is full with love and support,

Jackie and Keith Lorman, Rutland

Doctors need more time with patients, not less

November 6, 2024
Dear Editor, Bruce Hamory’s recommendation to the Green Mountain Care Board to reduce doctors’ time with patients is completely off base. The report’s conclusion that the state will have enough primary care providers is based on primary care providers (PCPs) seeing three patients per hour, and many internists, who see more complex patients, currently see a…

Dear Editor, (In response to Matthew Cecere’s commentary, “The National Popular Vote Interstate Compact could give Vermont voters more impact”).
