At first glimpse at Kevin Morgan you’d never know he is living with kidney disease, but he has been living on kidney dialysis for the past three years and was diagnosed with IGA Neuropathy (also known as Berger’s Disease) 4 1/2 years ago.
This graduate of Rutland High School class of 1976 went on to become an electrician. He has been a firefighter in Clarendon and Mt. Holly, where he rose to the position of chief.
Morgan lost his wife of 32 years to kidney cancer in 2012. She was undiagnosed for over two years — by then the cancer had spread elsewhere in her body and she was gone within three months.
Because of his kidney disease, Morgan has had to give up working and is on disability.
His days are planned around his trips to the dialysis center at Rutland Regional Medical Center.
His kidney function is zero, so in addition to the dialysis removing the toxins in his body, it is also necessary to remove fluids. He can consume no more than one liter of fluids a day!
