“I’m a 3-year-old black mouth cur mix. My previous home had some transitions. It’s been a bit of an adjustment for me — I am a bit on the shy side. Meeting new people makes me a little nervous, but once I get to know you, I warm up nicely. I enjoy long walks, it’s so peaceful. Speaking of peace, I am best suited for a calmer, gentle environment and would do best in a home without children. I might like to live with other fur children though, perhaps the right cat or dog — if they liked me too. I don’t mind a good rest either, maybe cuddled up next to a campfire. So, if you are looking for a gentle companion please call today to learn more!”

If you are looking for a small animal, we have good news: we have several! We currently have seven lop-mix rabbits. They are spayed and neutered and ready to have families to love them. We also have two male Guinea pigs that are best friends and have to be adopted together. And we have the cutest tiny dwarf hamster! For more information about adoption and these animals, check out our Facebook page, call or visit our website.

Springfield Humane Society, 401 Skitchewaug Trail, Springfield, VT • (802) 885-3997 •  *Adoptions will be handled online until further notice. spfldhumane.org

 What’s in a name?

June 25, 2025
There’s nothing like a talk show to spark an idea for a column. Hosts Kelly Ripa and her husband, Mark Consuelos, recently discussed how people’s first names often serve as clues to the decade in which they were born. Some names that are rarely chosen today were popular in previous decades.  The given name that…

No patch left unskied

June 25, 2025
I’m calling it.   I drove around the long way, hoping to catch one last glimpse of the patch before we actually began hiking up into The Canyon. Partly because I wanted to see what I was getting into and partly because I wanted to make sure she was still there. I honestly wasn’t sure…

Pack up your troubles

June 25, 2025
The longest day of the year has officially come and gone, which means we are now on the slow, downhill slide toward winter.  Given that the days are currently long and the temperatures are nearing their peak, my family has opted for the traditional summer beach vacation. This is nothing new since we’ve rented a…
