Now is the time to add a cat to your home as we just took in 44 cats and kittens from some very full shelters in Georgia. These felines are all sweet and ready to be yours! We have a tripod, a declawed cat and even one missing a leg! If you would like to come see these amazing cats, go to our website spfldhumane.org and fill out an application. Once approved we will set up a time for you to come meet everyone.

Hi! I’m a 6-month-old neutered Pug/Vizsla mix. I’m the cutest! Even though I am pretty young, I’ve had a very adventurous start to life as a shelter transfer. I’m an active pup that needs a little direction and guidance in the manners department, but I am smart and pick up on things quickly, and consistency is key for me. I love to snuggle and be pet and my greatest hope is to find my forever home before the seasons change, so I can hit the trails on gorgeous summer days with my new family, or, perhaps have a picnic at swim- ming hole. Oh, we’ll have so much fun!

There’s nothing like a talk show to spark an idea for a column. Hosts Kelly Ripa and her husband, Mark Consuelos, recently discussed how people’s first names often serve as clues to the decade in which they were born. Some names that are rarely chosen today were popular in previous decades.  The given name that…

No patch left unskied

June 25, 2025
I’m calling it.   I drove around the long way, hoping to catch one last glimpse of the patch before we actually began hiking up into The Canyon. Partly because I wanted to see what I was getting into and partly because I wanted to make sure she was still there. I honestly wasn’t sure…

Pack up your troubles

June 25, 2025
The longest day of the year has officially come and gone, which means we are now on the slow, downhill slide toward winter.  Given that the days are currently long and the temperatures are nearing their peak, my family has opted for the traditional summer beach vacation. This is nothing new since we’ve rented a…
