Annual Castleton women’s ice hockey Pink the Rink game set for March 6

On Saturday, March 6 the Castleton Women’s Ice Hockey Team will once again trade their traditional Spartan green apparel for pink to raise awareness and funds for the Breast Care Program at Rutland Regional Medical Center.

The Spartans will face the Norwich Cadets in an exciting match-up scheduled to begin at 1:00pm at the Spartan Arena. The game will be livestreamed at https://www.littleeast.tv/Castleton

“The annual Pink the Rink game is an important event for the Castleton University Women’s Ice Hockey Team and our local region. We are proud to continue to help raise awareness and support in the fight against breast cancer, says Tim McAuliffe, Head Coach of the team in his first season at Castleton.

Covid-19 has dramatically altered the season for the Spartan women (fewer games, last minute cancellations, etc.) but the Thirteenth Annual Pink the Rink game will go on and can be viewed via livestream.

The team will be wearing newly designed custom pink jerseys, which are currently available for purchase by an on-line auction. Cancer survivors can post pictures and share their stories with on-line posts. In the true spirit of the annual Pink the Rink, pink scarves will adorn more than 150 fan cut-outs “watching” the game from the stands this year, as the Spartans take on the Cadets, following their recent win last week.

As in past years, there will be a ceremonial pre-game puck drop, this year featuring the mother of a Spartan player, a breast cancer survivor.

Since the inception of the annual Pink the Rink event, close to $70,000 has been raised in support of the program.

“We continue to be grateful for the ongoing partnership and collaboration with Castleton University and the Women’s Hockey program in support of the Breast Care Program,” says Traci Moore, Senior Director of Development and Community Relations at Rutland Regional Medical Center. “We are thrilled the team is competing this year and thank the team and coaches for their support in raising funds and awareness in support of the Breast Care program at Rutland Regional”.
