Dear Editor,
Sen. Moynihan said, “You are entitled to your opinion. But you are not entitled to your own facts.”
Mr. de Luna thinks that his opinions are facts in an opinion piece published in the Mountain Times on April 20. He was unable to address a single fact about Trump I presented.
Mr. de Luna says that “many people believe … that the election was not legitimate.” As responsible politicians, including Republicans, and journalists have shown, this has no basis. Many people also believe in ghosts and Qanon (often Trump supporters). Russia? Trump recently referred to Putin’s “genius” and called his shock troops “peacekeepers.” On March 29, he “called on Putin to release information regarding alleged dealings between Eastern European oligarchs and Hunter Biden,” showing no interest in Putin’s war crimes. At the 2018 Helsinki Summit, he sided with Putin over our intelligence services. His contempt for Ukraine and President Zelenskyy was shown in his July 2019 phone call demanding dirt on Biden in exchange for arms. See Fiona Hill’s book “There’s Nothing for You Here.” As for NATO, Trump’s advisor John Bolton said that Trump wanted to abandon it.
As for “life?” Well, flies are alive. Does Mr. de Luna eat meat? Animals are alive until killed for meat… The monocytes you bleed are certainly human. The sperm and egg that produce the zygote are human and alive. In any case, human life began through evolution 300,000 years ago. Belief that human life starts at conception is a religious opinion that people are entitled to have but not to foist on others.
