State should follow CDC guidelines

Dear Editor,

Regarding Vermont’s decision to recommend going “maskless” statewide, as of March 14, I wish the state had followed the CDC guidelines. Those guidelines clearly state that in areas of high levels of Covid-19, everyone, regardless of vaccination status, should wear a mask indoors in public spaces. Unfortunately, my county (Rutland County) is considered “high” as of today, March 11.

I don’t understand why it is so difficult to go county by county as the CDC recommends. Everyday, the CDC updates its website and it is very easy to navigate. The state could update their report weekly and recommend appropriately. This would be a better method to keep transmission low, and keep going in the right direction until we are in the endemic phase, not the transition stage, which they say we are currently in. I will continue to follow the CDC guidelines, and wear my mask in public indoor spaces, and avoid crowded indoor places where most people are maskless in areas of high Covid levels.
