Chittenden Softball League: Rock runs away with the season, undefeated

By DJ Dave Hoffenberg

Rock Landscaping vs. First Stop Base Camp

Rock Landscaping completed their undefeated season with a shutout, mercy win over First Stop Base Camp (FSBC). Rock is poised to repeat as league champs, although this is their first No. 1 seed. FSBC started out strong, loading the bases but stranded the runners without scoring. Rock put two runners on but left them there as well. The second inning saw FSBC go down 1-2-3 but Rock had a hit parade with five singles leading to a 3-0 lead. FSBC managed one runner in the third inning but Rock continued to shine, this time with seven hits leading to four runs and a 7-0 lead.

The fourth inning was more of the same for FSBC, they had two runners on but nobody could cross the plate. Rock’s Buddy Bartlett hit the game’s only homerun to give his team an 8-0 lead.

The fifth inning for FSBC was exactly as the first. They loaded the bases but stranded all the runners to remain scoreless. Now all they had to do was shine on defense, hold Rock to one run to extend the game to the sixth inning. Unfortunately for FSBC, that was far from the case. Rock batted through their order, scoring five runs to secure the 13-0 mercy win.

Flannels Fanatics vs. Dirty Mike & The Boys

The next game was a lot more exciting. It was a battle between Flannels Fanatics (FF) and Dirty Mike & The Boys (DMTB). FF jumped out to a 4-0 lead off a double by Brett “Sharapova” Regimbald, a blast of a homerun by Judd “Magnum” Washburn and a RBI single by Ronnie “Relieved To Be With This Team” Crosby. The team welcomed back Ira “Lots of Gray” Zane who went down looking in his first at-bat for a big “Cold Beer K.” DMTB got three of those back after Colin “Diz” Clark, Mikey Davis Jr and Matt Littler all scored.

FF did nothing in the second inning except see Ronzoni Hacker match Zane in the “CBK Looking” department. DMTB failed to score as well.

Then, Washburn was at it again with another two-run homer and his team added two runs off of four singles to take an 8-3 lead. Tim Blanchard jumped in the “CBK Looking” group and DJ Dave Hoffenberg recorded a “CBK” to end the inning.

Davis and Littler both scored in the bottom of the third to cut the deficit to 8-5.

FF practically batted through their order in the fourth inning, scoring four runs for a 12-5 lead. They had a chance for more but Ronzoni stranded the bases loaded with a fly-out to end the inning. Diz’ nice looking sac gave his team their sixth run but Littler suffered a “CBK” to end the inning. Regimbald showed he’s not RegimOLD by blasting a two-run homer to make it 14-6.

DMTB put the deficit back to six with two innings to play. Zane crossed the plate in the sixth inning off a RBI single by Brando Remick. DMTB had a good sixth inning, scoring three runs to cut the lead 15-11. They had a chance for more but both Mikey’s suffered “CBKs” with Mikey Davis and Mikey Goodnough.

That would also be the final score after DMTB ended the game going down 1-2-3. These teams tied in the standings but FF takes the No. 2 seed with a 3-1 season series advantage.
