Hi!(I’m the little one in the back!) and I’m a 6-year-old neutered Maltese mix. I’m with my sister, Rosie, who’s a 7 year-old spayed Maltese mix a couple of months ago.  Before coming here, we had hit a bit of a rough patch, but things really started looking up quickly after our arrival! The only thing missing from our lives is our forever home. It’s our greatest wish to find the same home. You see, we have been together a long time, I simply can’t imagine life without her! We are a laid-back pair, a little shy at the first, but we warm up quickly. We just love to snuggle, too!

Lucy Mackenzie Humane Society, 4832 VT-44, Windsor, VT • (802) 484-5829 •  *(By appointment only at this time.) Tues. – Sat. 12-4 p.m. & Thurs. 12-7 p.m. • lucymac.org

If you have an active dog looking for a playmate Mac is the dog for you! Mac thinks every dog he meets is his new best friend and instantly wants to play. At a year old, Mac is the perfect dog for an active person who also enjoys cuddles. Mac needs to remain in Vermont because he is heartworm positive, but we will pay for his treatment. If interested, visit our website and fill out an application.

Springfield Humane Society, 401 Skitchewaug Trail, Springfield, VT • (802) 885-3997 •  *Adoptions will be handled online until further notice. spfldhumane.org

Remembering downtown pharmacists from yesteryear

May 15, 2024
When I saw the obituary for Lucian Wiskoski back in March I realized that he was the last of Rutland’s downtown pharmacists whom I had the pleasure of knowing from childhood into adulthood. Back in the ‘50s five pharmacies were located in downtown Rutland. They were: Shangraw’s, Carpenter’s, Carroll Cut Rate, McClallen’s, and Beauchamp &…

Absorbed and absorbing the moguls of Superstar

May 15, 2024
I couldn’t find my center of balance for the life of me. A few days off from skiing and I felt like a fish flopping about on dry land. I would get stuck in the rut and get launched upwards and then I could feel my weight slamming into the back of my boots. The…

It was 30 years ago today

I never dreamed of being a writer, I just happened to be in the right place at the right time. It was an early morning in 1994, and I was standing in the composition department of the Mountain Times, having been hired the prior year as a part-time graphic artist. Computers were just coming onto…
