Rutland Rec efforts exemplify the best of our community

Dear Editor,

Today I was standing on my porch watching the Rutland Recreation Department employees mowing the “park” created on reclaimed lands of the former National Guard facility on North Street Extension. What a great job done by Cindi Wight’s staff in making the absolute best of a wonderful piece of property in a safe and pleasant neighborhood.

I would also offer my congratulations on her winning efforts to revive White’s Pool.

The programs that live within the “Rec” Department are of equal stature and importance to our community.

All of this was achieved within a framework of full disclosure, public input and the vote of the people. Wish we did more things the right way.

Royal Barnard, Rutland

Dear Editor,  There is no simple solution to the challenges that Vermonters face. Dear Editor, In an October 23 letter to the Mountain Times, Steve Berry wrote, “John Kerry stated at a World Economic Forum panel, ‘Our First Amendment stands as a major block (to getting things done).’”  You may wonder why Mr. Berry uses such odd syntax, placing part of the quote in parentheses. Maybe it’s because…
