KILLINGTON — Killington Mountain School cyclist Turner Ramsay took the line with her fellow Junior 15-16 women competitors as the returning champion, after her emotional win in the 2015 race. Rain had fallen overnight, and racers took to the slick and muddy course at the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, N.C., battling it out for the title.

Ramsay’s stiffest competition was projected to be Katie Clouse — that prediction turned out to be accurate. The two traded the lead and attacked one another throughout the race, with racers repeatedly falling in the slick conditions. Clouse ultimately took the win, with Ramsay taking the second place spot in an outstanding and challenging morning of racing.

KMS Coach Brad Ramsay comments, “The 2016 Cyclocross National Championship course in Asheville, North Carolina was among the best we’ve ever raced on.  Technically and physically challenging by design, the course was made truly epic when a half-inch of rain Saturday night combined with the clay soils to put technical skills at a premium.”

When asked about Turner’s race, Coach Ramsay said, “It was everything Turner had hoped for in a course, and she had a great race. After an early crash involving Clouse, both girls fought back to the front and rode away from the rest of the field until an untimely crash created a gap that was too large for Turner to close before the end of the race. Regardless, Turner continued to fight and had a great sprint finish… It was a tremendous effort and one of which she should be extremely proud!”
