Thanks to the volunteer emergency workers

Dear Editor,

On Dec. 29, 2015 there was a fatal car crash in Killington on Route 4 near the junction of Route 100 that involved the death of three people. It involved a tractor trailer headed east and an SUV headed west. The crashed occurred around 3 p.m. Local Killington fire fighters and police were on the scene starting from 3 p.m. and stayed way into the night. Authorities said seven people were involved in the crash, which was largely caused by the first winter storm of the season. Killington really needed the snow as the ski season was off to a slow start and now this accident glooms around town.

I had the pleasure of meeting Paul, one of the firefighters with the Killington Fire department who has been involved for over 10 years. He is the second generation of his family with Killington. These volunteer positions are important and firefighters risk their lives to do a job that is both dangerous and difficult. They support our community and keep us safe. It takes great dedication and I wanted to thank all of the Killington firefighters that were on the scene.  It should not go overlooked. All that these volunteers do is valued and greatly appreciated.

Andrea Weymouth, Killington

A constituent wrote Williams a polite, lengthy email outlining various concerns with trapping—Williams’ response: “Get over it...” Sure, Williams lists trapping as one of his recreational pastimes on the Legislature’s…

Vaccines are our lifeboats

January 15, 2025
Dear Editor, Dreaded diseases that we have forgotten about because vaccines have eliminated them are threatening to return. Along with public health and sanitation efforts, vaccines are the single most lifesaving interventions in the history of medicine. Before vaccines, 10% of infants were dying of what are now preventable diseases; 30%-40% of children did not…

Overcomplicated or simple, the message must still deliver

January 15, 2025
Dear Editor, Since the November election, many Vermont Democrats have been reflecting on the results and lessons learned. To some, a significant problem was messaging. A funny thing about Democrats is that we often can’t stop explaining everything. “If only we could explain [insert idea/program/policy here] in a way that people could really understand, they…
