A word from the Commodore

Killington Reunion Weekend promises many memories and laughs

Dear Editor,

I’m sure by now everyone has heard about the Killington Reunion Weekend, June 26, 27, and 28, 2015. My spies inform me the weekend will kick off with a “meet and greet” at the Summit Lodge featuring Okie’s historic slide show. May I suggest that, if you haven’t been in Killington for any length of time, you wear one of your old Killington/Pico ski passes throughout the weekend? It will suffice to jog our rum-soaked cortexes. I happen to know of one local who is planning to wear all of her passes from 1969!

Green Mountain National Golf Course is also going to be offering a special reunion rate of $19.58 (get the connection?) for nine holes of golf with a cart if you show a Killington/Pico ski pass from the 60s, 70s, 80s or 90s.

Chef Claude of Choices is featuring the menu from the Alpine Inn for the Reunion Weekend and if you answer a trivia question about the Alpine Inn correctly you will get a discount. Think: Veal Oscar. The word is out that Pasta Pete is setting up an epic croquet pitch complete with his version of “high tea.” Of course, back in the day it would have been mud wrestling and jungle-rules volley ball; however, times do change, plus Pete wasn’t able to line up the quantities of oxygen and medical staff that would be necessary now for us to play volleyball and mud wrestling . . .

Dave Dixon and the staff of the Garlic have stepped up in support of the Reunion Weekend, too. Go to the Killington Reunion Weekend Facebook page (sorry, I myself am not up on the social media stuff) for all the details. While you’re at it you may want to check out the picture of the three amigos.

We all miss the Alpine Inn, Kings Four, Bilbo’s, but now we have the Foundry, the Lookout,  Dominics, Liquid Art, Mogul’s, Charitie’s, Birch Ridge, and The Inn at the Long Trail, which are still “the” places to be seen in Killington. Any re-visit to Killington is not complete until you’ve experienced the Umbrella Bars at the K-Base and there will be lots more fun things coming soon.

So come on up for the Killington Reunion Weekend for a breath of fresh air and re-connect with your old skiing buddies and show the kids, “Yep, Mom and I skied that . . . blindfold . . . backwards . . . on 210s . . . in a blizzard. Those were the days!”
