Pittsfield’s Mazie Hayden takes gold in Women’s Open Class SkierCross at USASA Nationals

KILLINGTON—Killington Mountain School ski cross athlete Mazie Hayden competed in the Women’s Open class SkierCross event at USASA Nationals in Copper, Colo., over the weekend of April 4-5. Hayden hails from Pittsfield, Vt., and is a ninth-grade student at KMS. She posted the fastest women’s time trial and went on to win the gold medal.

This is Hayden’s fourth gold medal in a row at USASA Nationals. In addition, she was also the Women’s USSA Revolution Tour SkierCross champion this season. The Canadian athletes whom Hayden beat in this race were ranked #1 and #2 for FIS SkierCross Nor-Am’s 2015 season.

Several other KMS athletes were out in Copper competing at Nationals as well. In Freeski competition, Estelle Pultar had a successful week for girls age nine and under, taking home two silver medals in Halfpipe and Slopestyle, and a bronze in rail jam. Margot Pultar placed tenth in Slopestyle, 12th in Halfpipe and 18th in Rail Jam. In SkierCross, Lindsay LaBaugh was fifth for girls nine and under and Joanna Robinson-Leith won the girls’ 10-12 category. Matt Labaugh qualified to compete but unfortunately was unable to participate due to illness.
