Solution for growth must come from all businesses, not the resort alone

Repealing the option tax will make it harder to pay for upcoming expenses

Dear Editor,

In response to Mr. Freund’s letter “Repeal once percent option tax for a stronger community” in last week’s edition (Nov. 13-19), which I read carefully, he makes some valid points. But what he failed to do is offer any solutions to the problems we have with regards to creating summer venues to create revenue during the summer months. Biking, road and mountain, zip lines, hiking, golfing, tennis are just not going to cut it.

Mr. Freund, do you have any ideas? Have any of the other business owners got together to solve this problem? I haven’t heard of any. Stowe, Okemo, Jay Peak have made significant progress. We are a day late and a dollar short.

The EDT and the Chamber have not come up with any solutions. And combining the two as one entity doesn’t appear to be a solution to the problem. The town has huge debt to deal with, the golf course, road repairs, the pool, and now the new fire house, some seven million dollars.

The solution is not only the resort’s problem, it’s you and all the business owners who have to get involved.

Richard Kropp, Killington

We have gained nothing from legalized sports betting

Dear Editor, In its first six months legalized sports betting brought $3.5 million dollars in tax revenue to the state of Vermont.
