Young Rutland man dies in head on crash

On Friday, June 11, at 3:30 p.m., troopers from the Rutland Barracks of the state police were advised of a two car motor vehicle crash on Route 103 in the town of Mount Holly.

While en route, troopers learned one of the people involved in the crash was deceased.

Upon arrival, troopers found it was a head on crash with one vehicle traveling north and the other vehicle traveling south. Initial investigation showed Nicholas Q. Huynh, 35 of Reading, was heading south on Route 103 when a 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee, driven north by Matthew G. Gibbud, 28, from Rutland entered into the southbound lane of travel and impacted Huynh’s 2013 Dodge Ram head on. 

Gibbud died because of his injuries. 

Huynh was transported to Rutland Regional Medical Center for minor injuries. The investigation is ongoing.
