Woodstock Garden Club awards Shari Sacks its 2020 Woodstock Village Streetscape award

The Woodstock Garden Club (WGC) announced that it has awarded its 2020 Woodstock Village Streetscape Award to Shari Sacks for the exceptional garden she has designed and established at her residence on High Street.

Since 2007, the WGC has recognized one garden in the Village of Woodstock that has been created and maintained by a homeowner, business owner, or organization that offers special appeal for the public to enjoy.

Sacks and her family hale from San Francisco, California, having moved to Woodstock in 2017 after falling in love with the Village over the course of visits spanning some 13 years. Always intrigued by gardening, she recalled that she just needed a chance to give it a try.

“Nothing grew very easily in San Francisco in the middle of the city,” she said. But in Woodstock, those circumstances have changed for the retired economist. The construction of two new stone walls on her property soon provided a brand new space for gardening along with an opportunity to experiment with a variety of plantings.

The garden she has designed accommodates a combination of flowering perennials and herbs that, through trial and error, have proved able to flourish in the plot’s varied sun and shade.

“I fell in love with my new garden,” she said. “I was really surprised and very pleased to learn that the Woodstock Garden Club had chosen my work for their special award.”
