West Rutland woman dies after crashing motorcycle

On Saturday, May 15, at 11:59 a.m., state troopers from the Rutland Barracks were notified of a single motorcycle crash with CPR in progress near 241 Blue Star Drive, in the town of Ira. 

Through investigation it was determined that Rina Girardi, 33, of West Rutland had been driving her 2009 Kawasaki motorcycle west on Blue Star Drive when she left the westbound lane of travel, striking a guardrail on the right side of the roadway. Girardi, who was wearing a helmet, was ejected from the motorcycle and died as a result fo the crash.

The motorcycle continued coasting along the guardrail for several hundred feet before it came to an uncontrolled rest. It had scrapes down the right side, according to police.

The Vermont State Police were assisted on scene by West Rutland Fire Dept., Ira Fire Dept., Fair Haven Fire Dept., Regional Ambulance Service, Assistant Medical Examiner Gena Wener, and Aldous Funeral Home.
