Wedding Announcement: Helwig – Laughlin

Kayla Elizabeth Helwig and Maxwell Tillinghast

Kayla Elizabeth Helwig and Maxwell Tillinghast Laughlin were married on Oct. 10, 2015, at the Plattsburgh United Methodist Church in Plattsburgh, N.Y., with a reception following at Westside Ballroom. Loretta Rietsema, friend of the family, and Pastor Philip Richards officiated. The ceremony included tributes to each of their families, happy tears and joyous laughter, and ended in typical Max and Kayla fashion as they danced out of the church to Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch’s “Good Vibrations.”

Brooke Helwig, sister of the bride, of Plattsburgh, N.Y., was the maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Stephanie Stenzel of Tonawanda, N.Y.; Alison Ahrens of Mooresville, N.C.; Mary Whelehan of Rochester, N.Y.; Christy Brown, also of Rochester; Zaidee Laughlin, sister of the groom, of Plattsburgh, N.Y.; and KylieMay Webb, cousin of the bride, of Fort Wayne, I.N. Piper and Reilly Damon, 2-year-old twins, of Lockport, N.Y., were the flower girl and ring bearer.

Matthew Scolon of Philadelphia, P.A., was the best man. Groomsmen were Paul Laughlin, brother of the groom, of Whitefish, MT; Michael Ahrens of Mooresville, N.C.; Evan Weymouth of Ossining, N.Y.; Ian Anderson of Boston, MA; Mitchell Maggy of Plattsburgh, N.Y.; and Kevin Morrison of Buffalo, N.Y. Ushers included Nicholas Murphy of Plattsburgh, Dustin Rabideau of Boston, and Jacob Swane of Rutland, Vt. Brody Bo, of Tonawanda, N.Y., was best dog.

The bride’s parents are Jeffrey and Robin Helwig of Mount Airy, N.C. She is the granddaughter of Robert and Bette Parker of Rutland, Vt., and John and Barbara Helwig of South Glens Falls, N.Y.

The groom’s parents are Trevor and Zaidee Laughlin of Plattsburgh, N.Y. He is the grandson of Robert and Barbara Potter and the late Helena Potter of Englewood, Fla., and Shirley Laughlin of Kalispell, MT, and the late Robert Laughlin.

The newlyweds live in Tonawanda, N.Y., where Kayla works in childcare and Max is an Assistant Store manager for Lowe’s. They plan on backpacking around Europe in March of 2016 for their honeymoon.
