Tour de Slate bike ride is returning to Middletown Springs, Aug. 7

Saturday, Aug. 7 — MIDDLETOWN SPRINGS — The 4th annual Tour de Slate bike ride is returning to Middletown Springs on Aug. 7. The Tour de Slate is made up of five different routes designed to provide an enjoyable ride no matter what your level of experience. The most challenging rides, for avid road cyclists, are the 100 mile and the metric century (100km/63.4 mi) rides. The additional choices of a 36 mile route, a 25 mile route or a family trail ride will ensure that there is a ride suitable for everyone. The ‘Tour de Slate’ is aptly named as it tours the world renowned slate valley of western Vermont and bordering New York state.

The Tour de Slate has decided to continue with a hybrid event. Their rider base and fund raisers can now be located anywhere. This allows riders to not only connect with Tour de Slate but also to be able to independently raise funds.

The beneficiary of the ride is Teen Challenge. Vermont has one of the highest illicit drug usage rates in the nation. According to some surveys, Teen Challenge is the most successful drug and alcohol abuse recovery program in the nation. It is totally funded by private donations and other fund raising events. All net proceeds will be donated to the organization. To find out more and register, tourdeslate.org.
