Stone Bench Project for teens continues in 2016

WEST RUTLAND — The Carving Studio and Sculpture Center invites youth (ages 13-18) from the Rutland area to participate in an exciting, collaborative project for two weeks this summer, scheduled for July 5-15.

Under the instruction of master sculptor Nora Valdez, participants will design and carve a stone bench to be installed in a Rutland area town. 2016 is the eighth year of the Stone Bench Project. The functional public art sculptures created become a point of pride for their makers and the communities they are placed in. Teamwork, skills building and cultural/historical appreciation are among the benefits derived by participants.

Students are selected through an application process. There is no charge for participation to students who are selected. Application deadline is June 10, 2016.
