Rebuilding the mid-station

KILLINGTON — A helicopter flew large pieces of steel up Killington mountain Monday, Nov. 23, including towers for the new mid-station that Killington Mountain School, in partnership with Killington Resort, is building at the Snowdon Triple lift.

The Snowdon Triple lift used to have a mid-station, but it was removed decades ago.

The reconstruction of a mid-station on the Snowdon Triple is expected to cut the turn-around time in half, providing quick lift-service access to the training venue.

It is the final public phase of the KMS Trails Initiative campaign aimed to improve the venues at Killington for local training programs while supporting a higher level of regional and national competition. The school raised the funds needed through private and foundation donations.

The initiative began in 2013. Phase I of the Trails Initiative involved widening the lower half of Highline, doubling the width of the available terrain, and creating a new, permanent mogul venue.

Phase II included snowmaking improvements, and the purchase of 28 new tower guns.

Phase III includes providing fast lift access via construction of a mid-station, burying the power line, and the construction of start and finish huts.
