Poultney Town Manager Jonas Rosenthal to be honored

Sunday, Oct. 9 from 1-5 p.m.—POULTNEY—The Poultney Area Chamber of Commerce recently announced that its first-ever 2016 Honorary Citizen of the Year award will be presented to Jonas Rosenthal. The public is invited to join the Chamber in honoring Rosenthal at an open house/retirement party sponsored by the town. The reception will be held Sunday, Oct. 9 from 1-5 p.m. at J. Claire Carmody Post #39 of the American Legion, a handicapped-accessible site located at 689 Granville Street in Poultney.
Rosenthal briefly lived in Poultney village before relocating to a nearby community but has maintained strong ties to the Poultney community for more than three decades, both personally through involvement with his wife’s Poultney family, through his work and with many civic groups.
Rosenthal has been selected by the Chamber for numerous reasons. It is recognized by all that “his embracement of the community and ownership of responsibilities through his jobs as manager of both the town and village of Poultney have gone above and beyond that of anyone’s typical job.”
He has also been known as the go-to counsel by civic groups not under the scope of his managerial office duties and has provided counsel for their benefit. He has been a conduit for the people of Poultney for the benefit of its many businesses, ecclesiastical and educational institutions, and non-profit organizations.
The Chamber’s Citizen of the Year award, presented annually since 1990, honors a resident citizen who has made major contributions to the betterment of Poultney, has distinguished herself or himself through outstanding service to the community and typifies the true spirit of service and self-sacrifice in representing the finest ideals of Poultney citizenship—a real “unsung hero” of Poultney.
As Poultney’s first-ever Honorary Citizen of the Year, Jonas Rosenthal will also be the grand marshal of Poultney’s July Fourth 2017 parade.
