Police respond to fatal parachuting accident

On Monday, Aug. 17, at approximately 4:24 p.m. the Vermont State Police responded to the area of 4369 Route 17 in Addison, Vt., for a report of a deceased male who reportedly made a hard landing after parachuting from a plane.

Upon arrival, troopers located Joseph G. Crossley, age 68 of East Hardwick, Vt., deceased in a field off the east side of Route 17.

Witnesses advised that Crossley’s chute had deployed, and his initial descent was uneventful, but that sometime during flight, Crossley began to spiral, and did not regain control of his parachute before landing.  The investigation is ongoing.
