Police: Child found dead at Rutland day care

Police said a 6-month-old girl was found dead at a day care in Rutland Thursday, Jan. 24.

Rescue personnel found 6-month-old Harper Rose Briar of Pittsford unresponsive at the in-home day-care on North Street in Rutland after a 911 call around 3:15 p.m. Thursday. The child was transported to Rutland Regional Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead, police said.

Detectives from the Vermont State Police’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation joined the investigation on Friday, Jan. 25, and together with the Rutland City Police Department and Vermont DCF are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding Harper’s death. Initial investigation does not indicate that the death is suspicious, but the inquiry remains active and ongoing. Autopsy results are pending from the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the Vermont State Police in Rutland at 802-773-9101.
