Pittsfield passes all 10 articles at Town Meeting

By Brett Yates

Pittsfield’s delayed Town Meeting proceeded without a hitch on Tuesday, May 3, according to town officials. Longtime moderator George Deblon presided over a gathering of “approximately 51” residents by the count of Town Clerk Tricia Fryer.

“It was the quickest town meeting I think I’ve ever been to,” Select Board member Joyce Stevens said.

Attendees passed all 10 warned articles by voice vote, adding $123,000 to the budget by approving the paving of 40 feet of parking lot at the Pittsfield Fire Station (intended to correct a drainage problem), as well as a pair of deposits into reserve funds for continued town hall renovations and the eventual purchase of a new pumper truck.

With these items, Pittsfield will have to raise $534,216.37 in municipal taxes, $10,665.27 more than in the prior fiscal year.

Voters reelected 11 unchallenged incumbents as town officers, including Select Board member AJ Ruben. One new face, Candace Kadimik, joined the board of auditors, following a resignation last month.

At Thursday’s meeting of the Select Board, May 5, Stevens and Ruben reelected Ann Kuendig as Select Board chair.

“I will accept since I’m in the middle of things,” Kuendig said. “I want to see through a lot of the projects that we’ve started.”
