The Perseid Meteor Shower Party held at library

Friday, Aug. 12 at 2 a.m. —KILLINGTON—The Sherburne Memorial Library will host its annual Perseid Meteor Shower Party this Friday morning, early—2 a.m. until daylight.
“Last year we had about 25 folks show up even though it was cloudy,” said Library Director Jane Ramos. “All but five left at 3:30 a.m., giving up on the cloudy sky. No kidding, not 10 minutes later, the clouds parted and we were able to catch about an hour’s worth of ‘shooters.’ So we’ll be there again this week clouds or not,” Ramos continued. “It’s supposed to be spectacular with about 200 an hour.”
In 2016, astronomers expect an outburst of Perseid meteors, predicting 200 meteors per hour on the peak night, Aug. 11(evening of Thursday), into the morning of Friday, Aug. 12.
Ramos encourages folks to bring lawn chairs and snacks. “We’ll have fun with the telescopes and coffee, clouds or not,” she added.
