Park Affair at Killington brings lady snowboarders together

By Brooke Geery

Burlington-based besties Mercedes Ortega and Hailey Ranconi brought their female-focused camp event, Park Affair, to Killington Resort on Saturday, Feb. 12. The goal of the event is to bring together anyone who identifies as a she/her in a supportive environment, where park riding skills can be learned, confidence gained and limits pushed, all while new friendships are created.

Coaches and camper Chantel gathered for a laugh — and a picture.

A squad of talented coaches, led by Jamie Trayer, were on hand to teach more than 50 women and girls who grabbed a slot at the sold out camp. The Woodward Killington Park crew put together a custom private park featuring boxes, rails and jumps — all designed for easy learning underneath the Ramshead quad — and the speakers pumped out jams by strong female artists all morning. Shouts of congratulations and excited yelps could be heard clearly over the beats all day long, as no shortage of new skills and smiles were definitely achieved.
