Obituary: E. Daniel McKeever, Jr., age 66

Dan McKeever, 66, of Bridgewater, Vt. died suddenly July 28 while visiting family and friends at the Jersey shore. His wife Betsy was by his side.

Dan McKeever was born Dec. 4, 1947, in Trenton, N.J.  He graduated from Notre Dame High School in Trenton in 1965 and earned a BS degree in pharmacy from Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science in 1970.

Dan and Betsy married in Bethlehem, Penn. on Feb. 20, 1971. They lived in Alexandria, VA and the Trenton, N.J., area before a mutual love of skiing brought them to the Killington region. They settled in Bridgewater and raised two sons, Tim and Kevin McKeever.

Dan initially practiced pharmacy in the Killington area, opening the Killington Pharmacy in 1977 and later working at the Ludlow Drug Store. But he is best known throughout the Killington community for his work behind the bars of numerous local restaurants, including the Pickle Barrel, Mother Shapiro’s, the Corner’s Inn, the Summit Lodge and Ramunto’s. These are the places where McKeever forged lasting friendships with many patrons and coworkers.

McKeever loved golf, skiing and all genres of music. He was well known for gifting friends and family with unusual music compilations and for his wealth of music-related knowledge.

But Dan McKeever’s first love was his family. When his sons followed their own love of golf and skiing to California, Dan and Betsy spent as much time as possible visiting Kevin, Tim, and Tim’s wife Janet on the west coast.

McKeever spent many happy hours on the golf course with his favorite foursome; Betsy, Tim and Kevin. Then, with the birth of twins two years ago to Tim and Janet, he discovered his greatest joy. More than anything, “Pop” loved spending time with his beautiful grandchildren, Chloe and Mason.

He is survived by his loving wife Betsy, sons Tim and Kevin, daughter-in-law Janet Luu, sister Jeanine and brother-in-law Albert Verdel, niece Bridget Verdel, nephew DannyVerdel and grandchildren Chloe and Mason. Dan McKeever was predeceased by his parents Eileen Brophy McKeever and Edward McKeever.

A celebration of Dan McKeever’s life will be held at the Summit Lodge in Killington on Sunday, Sept. 28 from 4-7 p.m. All are welcome. Hawaiian shirts are optional.

Memorial contributions can be made to the American Diabetes Association.
