Friday, June 17 at 8 a.m. — POULTNEY — Green Mountain College, in partnership with the SUNY Plattsburgh at Queensbury Branch Campus, will be hosting its second annual North Country Climate Conference on Friday, June 17, at the SUNY Adirondack Campus in Queensbury, N.Y. The conference will engage citizens from our Vermont and New York region in pursuing solutions for climate disruption. The conference focus will be on inspiration, common ground and action.
Increasingly, climate change is affecting North Country communities. The scientific consensus on the causes of climate change is strong, but the public consensus on how communities can productively respond needs to grow. North Country Climate Reality aims to facilitate that growth through annual conferences, working groups, educational outreach and networking. The organization’s mission is to make communities in upstate New York and Vermont models for effective local climate action and sustainability.
The conference includes three interactive breakout sessions focusing on achievable realistic strategies including lifestyle changes to reduce carbon, communicating about climate changes, informing government policy and action and climate change in the marketplace. The conference begins with coffee and snacks at 8 a.m. and ends with a 4:15 p.m. wrap-up session. The public is invited for this day of inspiring presentations, productive working sessions, and powerful music that brings us together to help local communities become more resilient and sustainable. Next year’s conference will be hosted by Green Mountain College on April 21, 2017.
