Mettawee Community School to be home to new emergency generator

WEST PAWLET — The Town of Pawlet announced May 5 that it has been awarded a FEMA Hazard Mitigation Grant for an emergency generator for the Mettawee Community School, located on VT-153 in West Pawlet. The school is a certified American Red Cross shelter and after the generator is installed it will become the location for the Town’s Emergency Operations Center.

The grant is for $48,698 which is 75 percent of the cost for the generator and installation. The remaining $16,232 needs to be raised from the public. A fund drive has been kicked off and events are planned over the summer to reach the goal. The first event, a pig roast, will be held June 4, beginning at 1 p.m., at Consider Bardwell Farm in West Pawlet.
