Mattsson finishes 11th in Giant Slalom at NCAA Championships

Ava Mattsson

Woodstock Union High School and Killington Mountain School alumna Ava Mattsson skied to an 11th-place finish in the women’s giant slalom at the 2022 NCAA Championships in Park City, Utah on Thursday morning, March 10. The Bridgewater native is now a senior at St. Lawrence University.

It was her second trip to the NCAA Championships. She posted a time of 1:05.49 seconds in her first run of the day, which put her in 12th place, and after posting a time of 59.89 in her second run, she landed in 11th-place overall for a total time of 2:05.38.

“Today was an amazing day for Ava,” said head coach Willi Steinrotter. “She was three-hundreth’s of a second from an All-American finish. Last year she was 20th in the giant slalom, so for her to finish 11th this year was a statement of her hard work and commitment to St. Lawrence skiing.”
