Local organizations join global #GivingTuesday movement

Tuesday, Nov. 29—RUTLAND—#Giving Tuesday is a national movement created to inspire people to take collaborative action to give back to the charities and causes they support, and takes place on the Tuesday after Black Friday and Cyber Monday. This year #Giving Tuesday falls on Nov. 29.
Vermont Adult Learning (VAL) has joined #GivingTuesday to help Vermonters achieve their educational goals and successfully transition to employment and post-secondary education.
As a non-profit organization largely funded by local, state and federal grants, VAL is reaching out to the community help Vermont adult learners by doing one—or all three—of the following:
Donate to Vermont Adult Learning at vtadultlearning.org/donate/;
Volunteer at one of the seven state wide learning centers;
Bring a neighbor or a family member to a learning center to find out how VAL can help them.
Last year, almost 3,000 individuals entered one of the many adult learning centers in order to improve skills in reading, writing, math, English language, and technology. More than 370 adults earned a high school diploma or a GED. Countless others received much needed support towards their educational and career goals.
For more info about VAL, contact David Roberts at droberts@vtadultlearning.org or 802-735-0867.
Rutland Regional Medical Center is also celebrating #GivingTuesday by raising money to purchase 25 new advanced technology defibrillators.
More than 500,000 children and adults in the United States die each year due to cardiac arrest. According to the American Heart Association, “A victim’s chance of surviving drops by seven to ten percent for every minute a normal heartbeat isn’t restored. The most effective therapies during resuscitation are technically proficient CPR and rapid defibrillation.” A defibrillator can stop sudden cardiac arrest.
Donations, no matter how large or small, will support the purchase of these critical life saving devices. To give to RRMC, visit rutland.thankyou4caring.org/sslpage.aspx?pid=298 and make a donation.
