Holiday decorating contest offered this holiday season
By Brooke Geery
If you need a little motivation to deck out your house for the holidays this year, perhaps the chance for fame, glory and spectacular prizes will help you out. Enter Jeanette Langston of Social Tinkering, who took it upon herself to create a competition for holiday decorating in Rutland County.
“I’ve created this event in the hopes that it will help people feel more connected to each other, reminding each other that we are all human and neighbors and friends and family, that we are here to support and care for each other. By working together to Light Up Rutland County and brighten each other’s holidays, we can help to overcome the feelings of isolation that have been so prevalent in this difficult year,” Langston said.
To participate, all your need to do is register your display at socialtinkering.com/light-up-rutland by Nov. 27. The 2020 light map, voting and donating information will be available at the same site Dec. 1-31, and the winners will be announced on Jan. 8, 2021. This year donations raised will go to the NewStory Center, whose mission is “to end the cycle of violence through support, education, prevention, and collaboration with all the people and communities of Rutland County.”
In addition to benefitting a good cause, there are some seriously awesome prizes up for grabs. First place will take home two round-trip tickets from Rutland to Boston on Cape Air. Second place will be original images taken by local photographer Steve Costello and third place will score Hydro Flasks for the entire household from Come Alive Outside.
On top of that, every registrant gets a Hydro Flask from Come Alive Outside, just for participating! “Without all of you decorator extraordinaires out there, we wouldn’t have a light show to raise our spirits and we really appreciate you bringing the joy,” Langston said.
