League golfers to vie for the Birch Ridge Cup

KILLINGTON — Green Mountain National Golf Course and the Birch Ridge Inn are excited to introduce the Birch Ridge Cup as part of GMNGC’s Thursday Night Twilight League this season.

Loosely based on the PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup, the Birch Ridge Cup will be awarded to the player with the highest point total at the end of the summer. The grand prize is a cocktail reception for 25 guests at the Birch Ridge Inn.

“We’re very excited to be part of Thursday Night Twilight League this summer,” says Bill Vines and Mary Furlong, innkeepers at the Birch Ridge Inn. “Mary and I have always loved playing Twilight League and wanted to show our support for both the golf course and all of our friends and neighbors who enjoy league night.”

Points will be awarded to the top three teams, for “closest to the pin” and by a random draw each week, which will include a gift certificate to the Birch Ridge Inn. The more nights the players attend, the more chances they will have to earn points. There will also be several “bonus point” opportunities throughout the season to “keep things interesting” said Vines.

“We are very fortunate to live in an area where our local business owners and members support the golf course and reach out to get involved,” explains Green Mountain National’s General Manager Dave Soucy. “Bill and Mary are really going that ‘extra mile’ and we know the completion this year will be more cut-throat and fiercer than ever!” joked Soucy.

Thursday Night Twilight League is a popular weekly event at Green Mountain National and everyone is welcome to get in on the fun. This relaxed “blind draw” scramble is great for golfers of all ability levels and beginners are encouraged to play.

“We have a lot of events where you sign-up your own team,” explains Soucy, “but half the fun of league night is the chance to play with different people every week and a chance to make new friends.”

The cost is $15 for GMNGC members and $25 for the general public which includes the 9 holes of golf, cart, a light dinner and the chance to win some great prizes. Thursday Night Twilight League play begins at 4:30 p.m. each Thursday, starting May 14 and continues until the beginning of October. For more information call 802-422-4653 or visit gmngc.com.
