KPAA light fest deemed a success

Submitted
Beth Sarandrea, owner of Liquid Art Coffeehouse is celebrating 10 years in business.

The Vermont Holiday Festival, produced by the Killington Pico Area Association (KPAA), brought an estimated 1,200 people to Killington for a socially distanced light and music spectacular last weekend, Dec. 4 and 5.

The event is one of two produced annually by the KPAA to both fundraise for the association, and to bring business to the area.

The KPAA hired Atomic Professional Audio to create the light and music show, which was displayed on Snowshed Base Lodge. Guests purchased their tickets online to allow for a touchless ticketing system.

Additionally, this year, instead of visiting the indoor tree forest, trees were spaced out throughout the community at local businesses. The silent auction and tree raffle lived on, but in a virtual way this year. The auction ran for a week with 50+ items including fully decorated Christmas trees sponsored by local businesses, local Vermont products, children’s camps, artwork, and more. Bidders could follow the “tree tour” that led them around the Killington area and local businesses to view the beautifully decorated trees.

Another tradition relatively new to Killington’s holiday festival is presenting the Member of the Year Award.

Started at the 2018 business mixer, which traditionally occurs the Thursday before the Holiday Festival, a member is chosen by the KPAA board of directors for their leadership and dedication to the community. This year the KPAA awarded Beth Sarandrea of Liquid Art Coffeehouse and Eater, as its 2020 Member of the Year.

Sarandrea  spent 10 years on the KPAA board of directors with her term ending in September. She has continued to support the Killington Mountain Bike Club, contributed heavily to the Vermont Holiday Festival, Killington Wine Festival, and more community organizations. “Beth has been a dedicated community member and business owner for many years. We’re grateful for her thoughtful and intelligent contribution of ideas on the board of directors and it is with great pleasure that we are presenting her with this award,” said Krista Neary, operations manager of the KPAA. “We’d also like to congratulate her and Jimi for celebrating Liquid Art’s 10th year in business!” Neary added.
