KILLINGTON — The Killington Energy Committee sends out a big thank you to the over 20 community members that attended the solar roundtable that was conducted this past Saturday, Nov. 7. The roundtable provided an opportunity for several Killington residents to share their experience installing and using solar to power their homes and businesses. In addition, representatives from Same Sun Solar Society, Sun Common, Green Mountain Community Solar, Neighborworks of Western Vermont, and Green Mountain Power were on hand to share information about solar and weatherization programs, and cold climate heat pumps that are available in Vermont.
“I thought that it would be helpful to have Killington residents that have solar installed talk about their experiences with others. The roundtable was a way to educate our friends and neighbors about going solar and the different items and factors that need to be considered,” said Marty Post, a member of Killington’s Energy Committee and organizer of the round table.
Area residents Steve Finer, Paul Buhler, Bill Shaw (Goodro Lumber), and Marty Post shared details about their solar installations, siting considerations, and how they went about choosing an installer. Although each of their installations was slightly different with some having ground mounted panels and others roof mounted. It was clear that each of their installations was a success in terms of saving money and helping to build a greener, cleaner, energy future!
The roundtable provided an opportunity for residents to learn how solar, weatherization, and technologies such as cold climate heat pumps and battery storage can be used to create a cleaner energy future that saves money and makes a home more comfortable. In addition, the roundtable provided solar contact information, 30 percent tax credit information, rebates and information about heat pumps and low cost home energy audits to help residents get started. Going solar and building a cleaner, greener future is easier than ever and the Killington Energy Committee is pleased that the roundtable may have helped move our area one step closer to its’ goal!
