Intro amateur (ham) radio class starts Jan. 4

Wednesday, Jan. 4 at 6:30 p.m.—The Green Mountain Wireless Society ham radio club will be conducting an entry-level amateur (ham) radio course on Wednesday evenings, 6:30-8:30 p.m., Jan. 4 through March 22. The course will cover basic electronics, entry-level radio theory, operating guidelines, safety, rules and regulations. There is no Morse code requirement. There will be live radio demonstrations. The FCC exam (all levels) will be given on Wednesday, March 22. All ages are welcome.
Ham radio is a fun activity for the entire family and provides emergency communications in times of need such as during hurricane Irene. When other communications fail we are there to help our community. We also have the pleasure of speaking with ham radio operators around the world.
There is no tuition charge. The required book costs $28. Books will be available at the first class. Book scholarships are available for those in need.
Classes will be held at the Rutland Police Department Community Room, 108 Wales Street, Rutland City.
For further information about the course, the test, or scholarship funds call Tim Abraham, WA1VT, at 802-558-0389 or visit gmws.net.
