Hubbardton Days continues in second year of town celebration

Sunday, July 24 at 4 p.m.—HUBBARDTON—Following a very successful Hubbardton Day last year, the town of Hubbardton has decided it would like to continue it as an annual event. PLEASE NOTE: This event was originally scheduled for Saturday, July 23, but due to weather non-cooperation, organizers have moved it up a day! On Sunday, July 24, starting at 4 p.m., the second annual Hubbardton Day celebration will take place at the Hubbardton Battlefield State Historic Site on Monument Hill Road in Hubbardton.

There are activities scheduled for both children and adults. Beginning at 4 p.m., the exciting magician Poppop-El-Phenomenal will perform. Children’s games and contests will also take place, and prizes and surprises will be given out. For the adults, there will be a horseshoe throwing contest and also the extremely popular, “females only” frying pan throwing contest that drew over 20 competitors last year and which again is bound to draw a lot of attention. In addition, there will be throwing contests for kids and “senior ladies,” as well. Cash prizes will be awarded to the winners of the adult contests.

Fried bread dough, water and ice cream will available for purchase during the day. Other events include a raffle with cash prizes, a “what’s your pleasure” drawing, and a 50-50 drawing. Also, back by popular demand is the face-painting lady, who will once again work her magic with her amazing creative art.

From 5 p.m. until 6:15 p.m., a “fantastic pig-roast” and chicken barbecue with all the fixin’s, put on again by the Center Grange 290 of Hubbardton, will be available; or bring a picnic supper. Advance tickets are $10; $12 at the event. For advance tickets call 273-2651 or visit Castleton Pet Supply, 700 Route 4A West, Castleton.

During the evening music will be provided by Mt. Independence Seth Warner Fife and Drum Corps. Taking center stage, 7-9 p.m., will be bluegrass and Americana musicians, Northern Homespun. They play high-energy, foot-tapping style music.

Closing out the evening—and by no means will anyone fall asleep—is a fireworks extravaganza.

For more information call 802-273-2951.

Remember to bring lawn chairs or blankets, and tents will be provided for your convenience. If the weather looks questionable, call 273-2911.
