Long dark nights are a little bit brighter this year, with many local Vermonters taking on Gov. Scott’s challenge to help “Vermont light the way.”

In Rutland, visit socialtinkering.com/light-up-rutland to find a map of houses participating in the first ever Light Up Rutland event. Voting is open through Dec. 31 and the top three homes will win prizes for their displays.

Another holiday decorating contest is underway in Killington. The Killington Dept. of Parks and Recreation invites everyone with a Killington town address to decorate their home or business for the season. Streets or small clusters of streets can enter to win bragging rights with a special plaque placed on their road sign for the year. Official judging was completed on Dec. 22; however, the light displays remain illuminated for your light peeping pleasure. For more information visit killingtonrec.com.
