Fundraiser hopes to raise $150K in a month to finance home, expanded programing, new store
The housing shortage in Rutland County is at crisis level. Habitat for Humanity of Rutland County is expanding its capacity and rising to meet the housing needs of the community.
The organization has set a goal to raise $150,000 by Sept. 30, 2022. And with an anonymous donor pledging $75,000, it’s on its way, according to an Aug. 20 news release. In accepting the gift, the board of directors promised to do everything possible to raise the additional $75,000 or more by the deadline.
When the anonymous donor was asked why Habitat for Humanity of Rutland County? The person responded: “I became aware of the great need for affordable sustainable housing in Rutland County from a close family member. I have a deep respect for Habitat for Humanity and want to support the long-term benefit this work has in a community. My family and I are excited to partner with Habitat for Humanity of Rutland County, Vermont!”
Eric Solsaa, board president for Habitat for Humanity Rutland County said, “We don’t start a home until we raise the funds. This generous donation will allow us to start our next home, increase our Minor Home Repair Program and open our first store. We are asking the community to help us reach our goal of $150,000 and hopefully go beyond this amount!”
“This is an amazing opportunity for our organization to expand its service footprint in our community. With this funding we can help so many more families struggling to stay in their homes or purchase their own home,” shared Rebekah Stephens, executive director for Habitat for Humanity of Rutland County.
The Minor Home Repair Program allows homeowners to address accessibility issues and remain in their homes.
This sixth planned Habitat home will be located at 3 Hickory Street in Rutland.
Habitat for Humanity of Rutland County’s first store will be located at 551 Rutland Road, in West Rutland. The store will open on Oct. 1, 2022. The store will sell donated items such as furniture, appliances, building supplies, housewares, etc. Revenue from the store will be used to support the organization’s mission of providing families in need with safe and affordable housing solutions.
