How the Grinch stole Christmas in Pomfret Toy donations, holiday mail taken

SO. POMFRET—State police and the U.S. Postal Service are investigating a break-in and burglary that occurred at the Teago General Store and U.S. Post Office in So. Pomfret. On Thursday, Dec. 22, at approximately 8:14 a.m. state police from the Royalton Barracks responded to a report of a break-in at the combined store and post office on Pomfret Road. The initial investigation showed someone had gained entry through one of the front windows and stolen items from the store. Further investigation revealed the burglar or burglars had taken approximately 25-30 unwrapped toys from the filled Toys for Tots bin inside the store. They had also gained access to the post office area and stolen several items, including approximately 20-25 packages waiting to be delivered to community members.
The thefts are being actively investigated. Troopers of the Royalton Barracks worked to replenish the bin of toys that was emptied. While no more toys were being collected at community centers, First Community Care in White River Junction was accepting donations.
If anyone has any information, please call Royalton Barracks at 802-234-9933.
