Fair Haven concerts series drew record crowds

Final concert of the summer is Thursday starring Prydein, a Celtic Rock Band Thursday, Aug. 18

— FAIR HAVEN — The Fair Haven Concerts in the Park had record crowds for many of the performances. This Thursday, Aug. 18, will be the final concert of the series we hope to see a huge crowd at 7 p.m.

For the final concert, Thursday, Aug. 18, Fair Haven welcomes Prydein. This Celtic rock band (bagpipe rock) features Aron Garceau on guitar, Iain MacHarg and Hazen Metro on bagpipes and flute, Andy Smith on bass and Caleb Bronz on the drums.

This particular group of musicians has been together since 2006 but MacHarg and Garceau have been playing since 1996 when they started the band Whisky Before Breakfast back in college. Prydein has been a fan favorite in past years.

The 50/50 drawings have been particularly popular this year. Many have asked where the money goes. The concert committee voted years ago that they would sponsor the Dodge House in Rutland.

The Dodge House helps homeless veterans and is located in Rutland. This year the entire half of the drawing at the 40th Army Band concert went to support their efforts.

A portion of the money also goes to support a local scholarship for a high school student entering college and majoring in music.

The rest of the money goes to support the concert costs and some money has been put aside some money to help support putting lights in the park.

Fair Haven Concerts in the Park hopes to see lights in the park next summer! The lighting project has been several years in the planning.

The concert committee will be busy throughout the coming months scheduling the 2023 summer series. A big thank you goes to the many volunteers. These concerts could not happen without those folks who set up on Thursday afternoon, come early to cook the hot dogs and get the sodas and water on ice, help people find places to park, sell 50/50 tickets or hand out door prize tickets. Other faithful volunteers also stay late to make sure the band has a few refreshments, and make sure everything gets packed away nicely and is ready for the following week.

As always, Fair Haven Concerts Committee thanks Fred who has been taking the lead position in making sure these concerts take place.
