Clarendon man killed by tree

A Clarendon man died in a logging accident in Castleton on Friday, Sept. 17.

Roy “Lucky” Corey Jr., 70, was found dead by friend Roy Lewis on a property where they were clearing trees for a house site, Castleton Police reported.

Police responded to a call from Lewis at about 4:30 p.m. saying he’d left the site and came back to find Corey in the woods under a fallen tree at 1784 Route 4A West in Castleton.

Fair Haven Rescue and Regional Ambulance Services  responded and attempted to treat Corey at the scene. He was declared dead at 4:41 p.m.

An autopsy is being conducted to determine Corey’s cause of death, according to Castleton police. Police are still investigating the incident.

A celebration of Corey’s life will be held Sunday, Sept. 26 at 1 p.m. on Raymond Hill Road in Orwell, according to a published death notice.
