Bridge 24 on Route 106 (South Street) scheduled for spring construction

WOODSTOCK—On Thursday, Jan. 21, the Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans) announced the selection of Miller Construction, Inc. as the contractor to replace Vermont Bridge 24 over Kedron Brook during the 2016 construction season.

The bridge, located on Route 106 between Kedron Road and Bryant Road, was built in 1924 and is now in poor condition. The new bridge will improve safety and meet current design standards. Construction will begin in April/May 2016. The cost of the bridge replacement is estimated at approximately $2 million.

The bridge will be constructed using accelerated bridge construction, which will reduce the duration of construction and impacts to the public. With accelerated bridge construction, bridge components are constructed off-site and then installed using heavy lifting equipment. The contractor has been given a 21-day bridge closure period to replace the existing bridge and open Route 106 to two-way traffic. During this closure period, traffic will be rerouted.

During construction, VTrans will post project information and weekly construction updates on its new website, https://southcentralvtbridges.vtransprojects.vermont.gov.
