Bike park offers thrills for all skills

Progression of terrain designed for beginner and intermediate riders

By Polly Lynn

It may not be quite as tame as a “sidewalk in the woods” as Jay ‘Rosey’ Rosenbaum, the Terrain Parks Supervisor and Mountain Bike Trails and Will Conroy head bike park excavator for the resort describe the new beginner terrain, but that’s a good thing. The new-style “flow ride” trails on Snowshed are approachable yet still exciting, designed to give athletes new to mountain biking a true feel for the sport without being intimidated by terrain too steep and “gnarly” for their ability.

Look for an multi-series feature on mountain biking in the next few editions. The first in the series will begin at the beginning with how the trails get built. Rosey and Conroy share the ins and outs of trail work, the new trends in design, their favorite trails at Killington and beyond, and a few funny stories of lessons learned the hard way.
