CSJ weekly round up

It was another action-packed week for spring sports at College of St. Joseph, with baseball and softball playing 13 games collectively.

Fighting Saints baseball went 7-2 and received the No. 1 ranking in the USCAA Coaches’ Poll for the fourth straight week. The team is now 41-11 overall and currently riding a seven-game winning streak.

Lady Saints softball went a perfect 4-0, sweeping Fisher College in a four-game set over the weekend. They are now 21-9 overall and have won their last nine games in-a-row. The team also moved up to No. 4 in the USCAA Coaches Poll after being at #6 for the majority of the year. Here is how the past week went down.

Apr. 20

Fighting Saints baseball started off the week receiving their only two losses in their last 27 games played. The two rare losses came at the hands of a well-coached NCAA D-II Saint Rose team, that was able to hit the ball in bunches against CSJ’s dominant pitching staff. CSJ lost the first game 8-15 and the second game 3-4.

Apr. 21

The baseball team bounced back nicely, beating NCAA D-II St. Michael’s in both parts of a doubleheader on Thursday. The Saints brought out their bats, accumulating 21 runs on 25 hits in the two games. They won game one 9-6 and game two 12-6.

Apr. 22

CSJ baseball beat YSCC foe Central Maine CC 19-0 in a blowout performance. Tommy Grant got the win for the Saints.

Apr. 23

Lady Saints softball got the weekend started on the right foot, taking care of business and defeating Fisher College 7-5 and 12-8. The first game was a battle and CSJ found themselves down for the majority of the game, until they were able to put together a six-run inning in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead and eventually win the game.

The baseball team played Central Maine CC in two more games on Saturday. They were not the same kind of blowout games that occurred on Friday, but they were still able to win 10-0 and 7-3.

Apr. 24

CSJ closed out the week in style, with the softball team winning both their games via the 8-run mercy rule in the fifth inning against Fisher College, and the baseball team defeating a tough opponent, Dean College, in both of their games.
