On Thursday last week, the fourth graders at Killington Elementary School held a pancake breakfast for their families, to share the delicious maple syrup the kids spent the last few weeks making. KES is equipped with its own Sugar Shack with an evaporator. Every year the fourth grade class taps trees, collects sap and boils it down to maple syrup. To celebrate their accomplishment, the fourth graders invited their parents and grandparents to come enjoy the sweetness of their labor. The kids had also had written poems in haiku format, which ties into their studies of poetry.  All the students read their poems aloud, and then they presented their parents with a pint of syrup that they had made.
